COBI Building Set AF MiG-29 (East Germany) (COBI-5851)

Building set of the Mikoyan-Gurevich MIG-29 fighter jet with NATO code name FULCRUM in German Air Force camouflage. The assembled model has adjustable control surfaces and an opening cockpit cover. Due to the construction of the building set, the landing gear legs are not retractable but can be easily removed. It includes the upper half of a pilot figure who can sit in the cockpit. The model can stand on its own landing gear or on a stand with a label.

Interesting facts:
» The Soviet command's requirements from 1969 for a new aircraft to counter American machines were so high that during the development in the 1970s, Russia had to interrupt the program due to extreme costs and split it into two branches. This led to the creation of the light MiG-29 fighter and the heavier Sukhoi Su-27.
» The MIG-29 from the Mikoyan-Gurevich design bureau first took off from the company airfield in Nizhny Novgorod on October 6, 1977.
» The fighter was developed as a counter to American machines F-15 Eagle and F/A-18 Hornet, and its production continues to this day.
» An interesting feature of the MiG-29 is undoubtedly the shape of the fuselage, which contributes up to 40% of the total lift.
» At the time of its inception, it was a competitor that was exported to most countries of the former Warsaw Pact.
» The MiG-29 is equipped, among other things, with an IRTS system for target search based on thermal signals, which is prone to interference, but at the time of its inception, it was a feared weapon system.
» All countries that operated MiGs had one common problem, which was a chronic shortage of quality spare parts. The supply of spare parts thus reflected the economic problems of the entire Eastern Bloc. 
» The MiG-29 is still manufactured in India under the licensed name BAEZ.
