Interesting facts:
Thunderbolt was developed in the late 1970s based on the U.S. Army's requirement for heavily armed aircraft capable of operating on the battlefield at low altitudes, destroying tanks, breaking bunkers, and achieving high survivability against ground fire.
The official designation is Fairchild A-10 Thunderbolt II, but in aviation, the nickname Warhog is most commonly used due to the aircraft's appearance.
The first deployment took place during Operation Desert Storm, when the aircraft completed 8,100 missions and destroyed 987 tanks, 926 artillery batteries, 501 armored vehicles, and 72 bunkers.
The landing gear legs fully retract into the fuselage but remain partially extended so the aircraft can belly land even if damaged by ground fire.
The pilot sits in a titanium bathtub weighing 770 kg, which protects against 37 mm anti-aircraft gunfire.
The aircraft is equipped with a rotary cannon with a firing rate of 6,000 rounds per minute.
Thanks to extremely high accuracy, 80% of shots hit a circle with a diameter of 5.2 m at a distance of 1800 m.
Firing from the A-10 is not cheap, with a 2-second burst costing approximately 40,000 Kč.
After modernization, Thunderbolts will fly until 2035.
Modernized aircraft are equipped with perhaps the best night vision system in the world, combining visual perception with spatial sound.
A total of 716 units were produced in various versions.
