Interesting facts:
» In 1983, representatives from Italy, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, and Spain met at a secret meeting to determine the parameters of the future European fighter jet FEFA.
» Two important parameters were set as the main requirements. The ability to take off and land on a short runway and the ability to fight at a distance without visual contact. France also insisted on the aircraft's ability to operate from aircraft carriers, but did not reach an agreement with its partners and withdrew from the project in 1985.
» The first prototype DA.1 took off from a Bavarian airfield on March 27, 1994.
» Seven prototypes were built for the flight. The tests were successful, and the required parameters were achieved. During the test flights, there was also one accident when the crew had to eject after an engine failure.
» The aircraft was named Eurofighter Typhoon during a ceremonial event at the Farnborough Airshow on September 2, 1998.
» All participating countries agreed on the aircraft's name, which symbolizes strength. In NATO's code designation, these aircraft have the call sign EF-2000.
» The delta-wing fighter has excellent lift and, thanks to its canard wings, exceptional maneuverability.
» The airframe construction consists of 82% ultra-modern composite materials, reducing weight by 15% compared to competing machines.
» Serial production is still ongoing and is divided among partner countries according to the following scheme: left wing - Italy, right wing - Spain, front and rear fuselage - United Kingdom, middle fuselage - Germany.
» An interesting feature of the equipment is the Captor-M pulse radar, capable of detecting a target at a distance of up to 185 km. In conjunction with the PIRATE system, it can track up to 200 targets simultaneously.
» Since the Eurofighter is considered an extremely high-quality aircraft, many countries outside Europe have shown interest in purchasing it. Current users of the Typhoon include Italy, Kuwait, Germany, Oman, Austria, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Spain, and soon Egypt, Indonesia, and Turkey will join.
» The indicative price of the machine is 90,000,000 EUR.
» Approximately 650 units have been produced so far.
