COBI Building Set HC WW2 Churchill Mk. IV (COBI-2717)
Code: 262394.56Product detailed description
Building set of the best British infantry tank CHURCHILL Mk. IV A22 in traditional army camouflage. The assembled tank has a rotating turret with an adjustable sight. The tracks are functional and the model can easily drive on non-slip surfaces. Smaller models of the 1:48 series bring a lot of fun and more space on the shelf.
Interesting facts:
» The development of the tank within the ARV project was a symbol of freedom for the United Kingdom and the rest of the world, as its complete design and subsequent production were exclusively carried out by British engineers.
» Churchill Mk. was the largest British tank developed in the 1940s.
» The Vauxhall company had no experience in tank construction, but eventually, a powerful and reliable machine was indeed created. The army only had reservations about the tank due to the extreme discomfort of the interior. A certain British commander once remarked: Imagine five biscuits in a tin box. Shake it hard. What remains of the biscuits is the tank crew after a few kilometers of driving.
» A total of 7,368 units were produced in various versions.
» Thanks to its long design, it easily overcame wide enemy trenches.
» The tank was decently armored for its time of origin, but unbearably slow, reaching a speed of 13 km/h in the field.
» In addition to weaker armament, effective deployment was also hindered by the high consumption of 682 liters of gasoline per 100 km.
» Despite its archaic appearance and clumsiness, it was an extremely reliable machine.
» The tanks saw their first combat deployment at Dieppe on August 19, 1942, when 60 Churchills charged into German positions, of which 46 were unfortunately destroyed.
» Despite heavy losses, the great resilience of the armor was demonstrated, as more than 80 hits were counted on one of the undestroyed tanks.
» The Churchill tank also took out the only preserved functional Tiger tank No. 131, which is now located in the Bovington Tank Museum, when it hit the turret and blocked its rotation.
» Many units were provided to the Red Army as allied assistance.
