History and Functionality of the KV-2 Tank
The KV-2 tank was primarily designed to destroy enemy reinforced concrete bunkers during battles in Finland. Its chassis was based on the KV-1 model, but the distinctive high turret increased the center of gravity and worsened stability on uneven terrain.

Despite its massive armor protection and powerful 152 mm howitzer, the KV-2 was slow and cumbersome, weighing approximately 52 tons. The crew accessed the turret only via a ladder, increasing operational demands. A total of only 334 units were produced from 1939 to 1941 at the Kirov factories.

Interesting Facts about the KV-2 Tank
In June 1941, an immobilized KV-2 tank stopped the German battle group "Raus" near the town of Raseiniai. Soviet soldiers often abandoned malfunctioning tanks, which German soldiers repaired and used against the original owners. Plans for a modernized version with a powerful 107 mm cannon were canceled due to low mobility.
