Interesting facts:
» Panzerkampfwagen II was developed in 1934 as a training and reconnaissance tank, intended to fill the gap in Germany's armament until the arrival of more modern and powerful tanks Pz III and Pz IV.
» Lieutenant Colonel Heinz Guderian, responsible for arming the German tank units, and General Lutz were aware that the industry lacked experience in producing heavier armored vehicles, and the PZ II served well in gaining experience in their production and deployment.
» In the competition for the supply of light tanks, companies Krupp, MAN, and Henschel participated. In subsequent army tests, the most successful prototype was MAN, which was then equipped with an armored cabin and turret supplied by Daimler-Benz.
» After further testing, the MAN light tank was approved for serial production.
» From 1935 to 1943, a total of 1856 units were produced in various versions.
» The internal space of the tank was quite cramped, making it difficult for the crew to load the cannon and machine gun.
» A peculiarity was the engine at the rear and the transmission at the front. The engine power was transmitted by a shaft running along the right inner wall of the crew compartment.
» Communication between the crew was ensured by a tube leading to the driver's and commander's position.
» The main advantage of the tank was not firepower or armor, but speed. The weapon was adapted to this, lacking a stabilizer, so it was necessary to stop before each shot.
