Jagdtiger – German heavy tank destroyer, a legend of World War II
Jagdtiger, built on the chassis of the Tiger II tank, is considered the heaviest and best-armored tank that went into serial production during World War II. The German command nicknamed it "unattainable luxury" because its production was extremely resource-intensive, which the Third Reich could no longer fully secure in 1944. A total of only 88 pieces of this colossus were produced.
Interesting facts about the Jagdtiger
The tank had two types of tracks – narrow 660 mm for transport on wagons and wider 800 mm for combat use.
The tracks weighed almost 3 tons, with each link weighing 62 kg and a total of 47 per track.
The long and heavy 128 mm caliber cannon increased combat potential but also limited mobility and required frequent calibration for accurate shooting.
High fuel consumption – approximately 1000 liters per 100 km – significantly limited combat deployment.

Jagdtiger remains an icon of military technology, representing the pinnacle of heavy tank destroyers of its time – despite its limitations, it was a symbol of strength and impressive defensive capability.
From the memories of tank commander Otto Carius:
I was the commander of Jagdtiger number 305004, which is now part of the collection at the tank museum in Bovington. In April 1945, we were sent to positions to defend Berlin, where we encountered Soviet IS-2 tanks. Their tanks were well-armored, but their cannons lacked sufficient firepower. During one day, we destroyed three IS-2s and damaged two more without suffering any damage. The war ended for us by hitting a mine. We had to abandon the Jagdtiger.
