Interesting facts:
» Designer Reginald J. Mitchell started working on a new fighter according to RAF specifications as early as 1931.
» Eventually, after many modifications, perhaps the most famous fighter of World War II was created, but the most numerous machine in the RAF's arsenal was still the Hawker Hurricane.
» The first Spitfire was commissioned on August 4, 1938, in the 19th RAF fighter squadron.
» Additional aircraft were delivered to squadrons at a rate of 1 per week.
» During the first operational flight with the 19th squadron, the pilot had to vow not to forget to lower the landing gear when landing, which pilots of older machines were not accustomed to.
» Spitfire aircraft were the first to use flush rivets to maintain a low wing profile, among many other contemporary technologies.
» German aircraft were also very good, but they lacked one essential thing, the extraordinarily reliable and powerful legendary Rolls-Royce engine.
» A total of 3,923 units of the Mk.VB version were produced.
» Currently, there are still 60 aircraft in the world capable of flight.
» Jan Zumbach, whose figure we present, was a true flying ace with 13 hits, but also a restless soul. After the war, he founded an airline that, instead of transporting tourists, smuggled Swiss watches into the United Kingdom and American Pennyroyal watches into Czechoslovakia. When everything collapsed, he lost all his assets and began to make a living by participating in numerous coups on the African continent. Well, he wasn't exactly a model hero.
