What is Jerky?
Jerky is a type of light and healthy food - snack, which is made by seasoning meat with various spices, mild cooking, and subsequent slow drying. Dried meat that has been processed in this way has a long shelf life and a unique taste. The invention of this meat processing technology is "credited" to the Native Americans, who smoked dried meat to extend its shelf life.

History
Although it is claimed that the history of jerky dates back to thousands of years before our era, mentions of Beef Jerky - that is, dried beef began to appear in South America around 1500. Members of the Quechua tribe, whose history is linked to the ancient Inca empire, made dried meat similar to Beef Jerky and called it ch'arki or charqui. They added salt to the cut strips of muscle from wild animals such as deer, buffalo, elk, and dried them in the sun or by the fire. This method of preparation allowed tribe members access to meat at a time when it was scarce and food was precious. The Spaniards encountered this method of meat preservation during their conquest of the territory, adopted it, and made it accessible to the rest of the world. It even became a staple food for American cowboys and pioneers in exploring the American continent. Over time, throughout the years, people discovered that the meat could be tastier by adding various spices.
The Jerky we offer is prepared from premium beef or poultry. The pieces of meat are first seasoned with selected spices and then slowly dried. This achieves excellent taste and preserves maximum nutritional value. Quality meat, selected spices, and the right temperature and drying time are the secrets of the unique taste of Jack Link´s Jerky.
